TIG Welders
Time-Served & Coded
Key Objectives
To produce consistent level of high quality welded joints on various products, while utilising a diverse range of welding processes & techniques. These are subjected to strenuous inspection with U/T, X-Ray & MPI techniques.
Main Duties
Welding of pipework, support frames, shell boilers & pressures vessels in carbon and stainless steel using TIG welding processes.
Skills Required
- Time served Coded Welder essential
- Completion of Recognised Craft Apprenticeship.
- Good overall diversity in various welding processes
- Ability to work on own initiative
- Must be conversant with fabrication drawings
- Work is based at both our workshop and customer’s sites.
- Coded to ASME IX 2015
- Coded to BS EN ISO 9606-1 : 2017

Job Overview
The 1st and 2nd years will be attending Carrs Skills Academy, Carlisle on Monday-Thursday (term time) and on Fridays the Workshop and then progressing to work based learning in the workshop in years 3 and 4. To work through the Apprenticeship manual, learning and carrying out the tasks within.
What will I learn?
This apprenticeship is designed to provide the apprentice with the opportunity to develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours expected of a competent Metal Fabricator operating in a number of areas. Knowledge and skills include complying with statutory regulations, maintaining organisation safety requirements including environmental compliance procedures and systems and identifying hazards and hazardous situations.
An apprentice will follow correct metal work instructions, specifications and drawings and show an understanding of job documentation, work instructions and operating rules. They will also work efficiently to complete tasks to specification and quality requirements and restore the work area on completion of activities.
What qualification or qualities are required?
You’ll have a head start in this vacancy if you’ve completed a Foundation Apprenticeship in a related field. We’ll need you to provide evidence of your qualification and show you gained the relevant skills from your placement
- A minimum of 3 National Level 5 qualifications which include Maths & English
- Ability to work both within a team and under own initiative
- Demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills through education and extra curricular activities.
- A basic understanding of health and safety.
You will required to undertake an on-line assessment as part of the recruitment process.
